Obama: Just Making Stuff Up To Impress Hispanics

“Long before America was even an idea, this land of plenty was home to many peoples. The British and French, the Dutch and Spanish, to Mexicans, to countless Indian tribes.”
—Barack Obama
RALEIGH— So saith the man from the 57th State in the Union.
The land modernly known as Mexico was first visited by Europeans in 1517. Spaniards actually. Mexico declared Independence in 1820. It was recognized as Mexico a year later in 1821.
The United States of America was formed in 1776.
Apparently Mexicans existed long before Mexico was even an idea.
Ha, I thought Bush was supposed to be the “dumb” President.
Obama probably just wishes that the European’s had not come over and conquered North and South America. This way we could have added Human Sacrificing to Slavery on the list mistakes humans have made in the past by letting the Moche, Iroquis, Maya, and Aztec all come to power instead.
You did such a good job dissecting the false attribution to Abraham Lincoln of the “I see in the near future a crisis approaching that unnerves me…” I wonder what’s gone wrong here. Obama is speaking about America as a land which the United States is a part of. You address your criticism as if he were speaking of Mexico.
Stourley Kracklite, you should re-read the post and the quote…
The quote:
“Long before America was even an idea, this land of plenty was home to… Mexicans….”
–Barack Obama
The post:
“Mexico declared Independence in 1820. It was recognized as Mexico a year later in 1821….The United States of America was formed in 1776″
So put the two together now…. “Long before [1776]… this land of plenty was home to… Mexicans [1820]“
Oh, this is about the founding date of Mexico! My bad. Nonetheless, the name dates back to the 14th century or so. So while it would seem that you have a point it’s the kind best concealed by a hat.
The name dates back to an Aztec capital city and is derived from Native American laguages known collectively as the Nahuatl. None of the Native American tribes grouped in the Nahuatl language branch of the Uto-Aztecan languages were known as “Mexicans”.
