LONG BEACH— American Missive has been discussing the virtues, or lack thereof, of proposed Health Care Reform by the wingnuts of the liberal left. Browsing the neighborhood blogs today I found an incredible post concerning much of what American Missive has been discussing. Matt’s Meditations presents a similar point of view on the current national debate.
Perhaps American Missive has been too “cold” with the numbers. The discussion of this topic comes down to many perspectives. The Black Commenter over at The Truth In Black and Right wrote an exceptional piece concerning the primary reservation of many opponents of the proposed reform. I recommend reading all of these.
In short, America, as a nation, simply cannot afford the proposed reformation. To date, no single plan put forth by the ruling party addresses this major concern. In fact, as mentioned in all the linked blogs in this missive, the plans put forth only add to the fiscal suicide of the nation.
This is exceptionally troubling. It may sound cold to the liberal minded but there are certain things which come first. The actuarial tables of the nation, as opposed to the individual. If this nation is not defended, the rights we currently have the privilege to enjoy are not secure and, like all nations of the past, are threatened with annihilation. If this nation is not fiscally sound it will be unable to provide adequate defense and will be held at the mercy of the debt holders. And lastly, while health services are expensive, that is the only limit in this country to obtaining the health services. There is no government bureaucracy limiting service based on actuaries. The same actuaries that led Matt Damon to not vote for John McCain. Perhaps the insurance companies provide an obstacle to the acquisition of affordable health care, but the care is still available, though expensive.
The response to only the shouters and flamboyant by Mr. Obama, Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi and other liberal Democratic leaders has stunted the true debate. The majority of Americans would like an open, honest debate. But for that to happen the fear-mongering by both the wingnuts of the Right and the liberal leader wingnuts of the left needs to end. There are other options. Unfortunately they are not being discussed. And it is a true shame. Most, if not all, the alternatives offer fiscally feasible solutions to reducing health care costs, sustaining current entitlements while not increasing national deficits and debts.
I have questioned many who have come to this blog in opposition of the opposition to the public plan. My question has not been answered but I am eager for any reader to respond. Ignore all the hype and attention to the radicals by the radicals and think. Is it possible that there is an alternative solution to the current legislation which achieves implied, or stated, goals for health care reform?
I think they are not being discussed because the goal really is not a fiscally feasible solution to bringing down costs, but rather the expansion of federal power and the state. Deficits don’t matter if you aren’t the one to pay for them and when the pitiable savings can be inflated away.
TBC: so very true. The lack of honest debate on this issue only reinforces the idea of a power grab. It should be obvious. Practically every complaint and insult tossed at the previous administration is being acted out during this administration. Apparently it wasn’t that they didn’t like what Bush was doing. They just didn’t like the idea that Bush got to do it.
Agreed here.
If they pass this healthcare bill with the public option, they will create an entirely new constituency that will build over time as more people are dumped onto the public plan.
Hospitals and private practicioners will slowly shutter their windows and close their doors for lack of sufficient fees to cover their costs.
Fewer intelligent, motivated people will choose the profession of being a doctor.
A type of rationing will seep in, not in an overt way- but one that is administered through long waiting lists and extended delays on “test results,” etc. etc.
The pace of health care technology and pharmaceutical innovation will wind steadily downward, with occasional boosts caused by grants- but those grants will stimulate speculative and peripheral research with a lower likelihood of market-based applications.
Unelected bureacrats, with cushy job security and no incentive towards efficiency, will administer increasingly more of our healthcare provision, responding ever more slowly to urgent healthcare needs. They will be uncompassionate, remorseless.
And our children will be raised in this environment and think this was all there ever was.
…and we will know better.
Ugh.
And our healthcare system will wind to a crawl.
[...] is NO Health Care Debate My friends at AmericanMissive.com I’m afraid are “blowing in the wind“. They want open and honest debate for health care reform. But there is none because [...]
Yeah there is. Click on the little green articles referenced above. You’ll see the debate there.
Sorry, it’s easy to miss at first glance.
[...] die! This is the most illogical and silly scare tactic the left could possibly use in the “debate” for increasing government subsidization of health care (i.e. health insurance). Just today [...]
