ATLANTA— Today marks the one year anniversary of American Missive. We started this blog in the heat of the 2008 Presidential election season to voice our opinions on the progress of that election and to engage in healthy debate over the qualifications of the candidates and their positions. Since that time, our site has received 21,719 hits and has been a great day-to-day forum for discussion of key topics in the political arena from a conservative perspective. In light of the anniversary, we decided we would put out a quick post with some of the highlights of our first year.
Our very first missive on August 10, 2008 was posted by TennesseePaul, entitled Stubborn Arrogance. It was written about the “stubborness trait” we saw in Barack Obama that we thought would make his administration incapable of significantly changing the partisan tone of politics in Washington from the George Bush years.
Stephen Van Nuys first post was August 17, 2008, entitled A Democratic Reagan? …Hardly. The post was written about Mr. Van Nuys’ belief (prior to the Lehman Brothers collapse) that Mr. Obama could not win the election, given his far left views. The article concluded by saying that even if Mr. Obama won, he would not have the political mandate to fundamentally reshape the political trajectory of the nation to the left or to implement his policies in the manner that he would like to see them implemented.
The top 10 all-time most popular posts on this site (through August 9, 2009) are as follows:

Our best researched post is Democrats Double Down on the Race Card – Why It is a Misguided Fallacy. The goal of this post was to explode the myth that race would play a significant role in Mr. Obama’s election by reviewing historical election results for political races involving black candidates.
Our most frequently “linked” post and the post with our best poll was OBAMA DISCOUNT: Is Obama’s Rise in the Polls Causing A Drop In Stock Markets? See Our Chart and Take Our Poll!. We lost track, but the charts on this post were linked on at least 25 other websites, chatrooms and facebook pages at various times from November through March. The poll was taken by over 100 viewers of the post, making it our most popular poll ever.
Two posts on the American Missive were linked to major news outlets. Obama Supporters Warmup the Race Card, written by Tennessee Paul, was linked into CNN’s Political Ticker during the heat of the Presidential Race. Mr. VanNuys’ missive, THE BIG OBAMA MANDATE! … And The FIVE FASTEST WAYS He Could DESTROY It!, was awarded the front page of the BBC the day after the election.
We have enjoyed the success of our first year and look forward to adding to that success throughout the coming years of the Obama Administration.
