ATLANTA— Alright, it’s been a handful of months now and I have watched Barack Obama enough to put my thoughts out here for all my readers to see. Go ahead and favorite this page and reference it in three-and-a-half years, when Barack Obama gets bested by his as-yet unknown competitor for the presidency. This guy is toast— I’m calling it.
On inauguration day, I posted my speculations about why he could be a one-termer, though I said then I was not making a formal prediction. I am now.
Here are my top three reasons:
-
Devestating economic policy: The economy is still going to largely stink in 2012 and people are going to blame him. Rightly so in my book, because I’ve been arguing since before the election that his spending policies and disregard for the deficit are going to really help fuel higher long-term interest rates and big-time inflation. The federal reserve will mostly be to blame for this, but Barack Obama’s huge, wasteful stimulus package and his pursuit of big-ticket entitlements like health care will contribute to run-away, record deficits- and should be an easy target for a focused, conservative opponent.
-
Elitist over-emphasis on the environment: Barack Obama is a true believer when it comes to ways the government can tax middle class Americans into literally changing the weather. Consider these: car emissions curbs that will strip Americans of their beloved SUV’s and pick-up trucks; caps on domestic oil-drilling while gas prices spiral out of control; cap-and-trade policies that will balloon the price of basic electricity. These are the things that get high marks in elite circles. But average people are going to absolutely hate them. Similar policies turned middle class whites against the Labour Party in Britain in recent election cycles and they will do the same to Barack Obama. These will seem especially foolish if climatologists come to verify we have actually entered a period of global cooling.
-
Reckless foreign policy: Barack Obama’s speeches have generally been light on advancing an understanding of America’s vast contributions to the world and heavy on self-deprecation, something that many Americans find offensive. Further, he has done little to convince allies to get on board with his policies. And in addition to all of this, the belligerence of foreign aggressors (insert North Korea) has been amplified since he took office. I think our enemies will come to interpret all of this as weakness. My fear is that a big-time international incident is going to occur during his first term, precisely as a result of someone taking advantage of his weak overtures to our enemies. My guess is that Israel and Iran will go to war, and it will be immensely devastating to the peoples of both countries.
There could be plenty more to add. All told, Mr. Obama’s ego and pride are too large to see his own short-comings and the danger in his policies. His aides frequently suggest that they are here to change the world. They just might do that: by reducing the scope of America’s dominance in international affairs and hampering the strength of America’s economy.
You guys are smart, well-educated, well-read and wrong. You should not let your profound philosophical disagreements with the left delude you into thinking you’ll be back in power anytime soon. Perhaps you are right about some or all of the issues, but you are wandering in the wilderness with no Moses and no manna. Every time Boehner, Gingrich, Palin, Chaney, Limbaugh, etc. are on television, more people become Democrats. You will obviously be back eventually, but you’ll need a lot more than vitriol to get there.
Thanks for stopping by, smashey, but I wouldn’t talk too fast there. American politics are even faster paced now than ever before. Just 4 years ago, people were making the same claims about the Democratic Party- no clear leader, no clear direction, etc. If it hadn’t been for GW Bush, we’d likely be having the same conversation.
The bond markets are going to be Obama’s undoing. Keep your eye on them. Government had a bad auction of 10 year treasuries today, a worse one of 30 year treasuries are coming tomorrow. Mortgage yields are up from 4.9 two or three weeks ago to 5.50 today- and climbing. These things are happening because of record deficit spending and investor fears of future inflation. People are deversifying out of treasuries into safer assets. You’ll note oil has rocketed up, despite continued sluggishness in global demand. That’s because oil transactions are denominated in US dollars, and traders are demanding more of them as a hedge against inflation.
It’s happening, Smashey, just like we thought it would. Obama has a reckless disregard for the deficit. George W Bush did as well, I’ll give you that. We didn’t like it at the time. But Obama was elected for change- and he’s like GW Bush on steroids. People are going to see very soon.
No tangible difference in his policy in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Record deficits.
False promises on Guatanamo that are going to be a remarkable political liability here in a few months.
Nationalization of key industries.
..and then inflation and high long-term interest rates that will prove to be killers for low-income folks and older people living on fixed incomes.
Big government is about to fail us big-time.
smashey,
unfortunately you seem to be more interested in which party to support rather than what they are doing.. I honestly believe you would have been against the very irrational acts of Mr O, that you have no problem defending, this is not about the right or the left wing, this is about what will be the outcome for America and the world, and the people residing in it..
Dont you think you are hypocritically proving yourself I your own comment, where on one side you say “dont let your profound philosophical disagreements with the left delude you into thinking you’ll be back in power anytime soon”.. while in the very next sentence say “Perhaps you are right about some or all of the issues”…
So tell me, how are these guys wrong? and how you are not wrong? and most importantly… when you say “you’ll be back in power anytime soon”, while agreeing to the mistakes, and bashing the republicans, just because they are republicans.. I am forced to believe the “you’ll” means, Americans? Sounds like a pro-dictatorship rule is in motion and you are in-charge. Care to defend yourself?
Skipped out a whole sentence:
“I honestly believe you would have been against the very irrational acts of Mr O, if it was done by a republic president and would have been ranting about how the alleged situation exists with the republicans.”
so much for we the people, by the people for the people. Sounds more like we the people, screw the other people!
Stephen,
Sounds like the emission policies, oil-drilling curbs and gas prices are already conspiring in the favor of “The alternative-energy technology theory” that I had mentioned a month or so ago.
Cheers!
