LONG BEACH— I keep hearing about the ‘race card’. And in this election it appears to be coming out as Obama’s supporters prepare for a possible loss. Should Mr. Obama fail to secure an easy to win election for the Democrats an excuse must be made. Rest assured that any reasoning for an Obama loss will not include the following:
- Questions of Experience. Mr. Obama lacks in this field. Americans know it. The only group of people who seem to not notice are his disciples. Even Mr. Obama knows this. It is the only reason he directly opposed his campaign platform of changing Washington politics by choosing a 35+ year Senator as his running mate. And it is why his campaign immediately attempted to assassinate Sarah Palin’s experience claim.
- Questions of Trust. If Mr. Obama fails, part of the reason can simply be chalked up to the electorate didn’t trust him. This will especially be the case if Mr. McCain keeps reminding people of all of Mr. Obama’s flip-flops. Mr. Obama can point to Mr. McCain’s change in positions as well. But if Mr. McCain continues to admit he changed his position, people will trust him. It is when a candidate changes his position and then denies he ever held a different view that the electorate lose faith in him.
- Questions of Leadership. Mr. McCain hasn’t run the cleanest of campaigns. Neither has Mr. Obama. However the left whines more, and more loudly, than any political group in this nation. It’s hard for Americans to back a man who routinely complains about the national dialogue not being exactly as he wants it.
- Questions of Elitism. Nothing turns off the American voter more than a man who parades around the country with an heir of entitlement. Mr. Obama’s two-faced approach to city and rural living will not help him.
- Rejection of Liberal Ideology. Americans in general do not want to be Europe. If a hyper liberal politician is rejected for a national office such as president, it is most likely due to ‘the issues’. And in particular the extremeness of the position held on the issues. Governor Palin has been tagged as ‘extreme’ by the left for her faith in God and her views on Abortion, but she isn’t running for president. Mr. Obama is running for president and his views on abortion are extreme in the opposite direction. That direction just so happens to be directly against the majority of Americans view. And while the majority of Americans may still support legalized abortion, the overwhelming majority believe it is wrong to toss a living baby into a trash can.
- Rejection of Single Party rule. This will only be a factor if Mr. McCain brings it up more in his campaign. But after all the weeping and gnashing of teeth that went on when the Republicans controlled the executive and legislative branches it’s hard to think the average American was complaining about the party name that had unchecked power more than the idea of unchecked power.
- Lack of new ideas. I’ve heard Mr. Obama’s campaign. His message of hope is a message that was used 60 years ago, 40 years ago and for hundreds of years prior. Class Warfare and ‘the New Deal’ are not new.
These are only a few of the reasons Mr. Obama could lose. Racism will be a minor reason. The majority of this country is still white, but the size of this majority is shrinking. Any form of racism that would be apparent in this election is likely to come from a multitude of ethnic back grounds. And that racism card cuts both ways. There will be voters who vote for Mr. Obama only because of his race. I’d speculate that any accusations of racism are from that of weak willed individuals who refuse to believe their ideas are not as popular nationally as they are among their group of friends.
I shudder to think of what will happen if Mr. Obama loses. Democrats are sore losers. The past 10 years plus are a testament to this. They can never accept a loss on face value; there must be some underlying national character flaw or senister opponent conspiracy to explain it.
Obama 08!!!
makaku777: Appreciate the passion. Keep reading and commenting.
Utter Bull____! White people in America are obese, racist, greedy pigs. Just like the guy who wrote this nonsense! McCain is a lying sack of ___like Bush before him. Palin is a strait up Nazi.
Well Said. Many from the left thought this election was a slam dunk for their guy, they are floored that it is a real fight that so far is favoring McCain. That is why the left is almost in meltdown mode.
Ryan: You’re kidding right? Your oximoranic post was a joke, right? Or are you saying that the only way Mr. Obama can lose is through racism and only racism?
The prevalance of the kind of ignorance displayed by the commenters remarks above this post are why politics should only be handled and discussed by rational, intelligent citizens who know how to think before they speak. Instead it is broadcast to the masses to get people hyped up about things they dont understand. Its sad but the majority of the populace can not think for themselves, much less express their feelings without having to resort to profanity and insult laden tirades to try and prove their point.
I was posting about “Ryan” not TennPaul
McCain and palin and every other republican I have ever met or heard from is/are lying sack(s) of ___ motivated solely by greed oppression and bogotry…and no I am not kidding. Republican = SCUM!
Ryan your a straight up butt hole! but keep talking, it only helps my side.
Hey Ryan: If you don’t like this country, I’ll be glad to buy you a one-way ticket to Cuba or Venezuela. Your ignorance is overwhelming.
I watched a utube video at a MTV show where a singer talked about racism being a problem in one sentence and said he wants to fondle Palin in the next. I haven’t seen racism other than those who keep complaining about it, but I have seen an overload of sexist statements against Palin. Why is noone reporting on this?
Ryan,
I believe you’ve just proven the author’s point: you’ve retreated to class warfare, stereotypes, and name calling instead of addressing the issues. Yet, the issues remain, and there is a lot of truth in the author’s points.
The truest of which is that the Democrats are extremely sore losers. They can’t accept national rejection of their ideas because they can’t bear the thought that their positions might be wrong. A case of denial writ large – and deep down, they know it. For proof, I ask that you look no farther than their campaign strategy: Change. OK, change to what? The more Mr. Obama explains in detail how he wants to change things, the more voters realize he actually is the most liberal senator in the US and the more they look to Mr. McCain for a better answer. So, they hammer the change idea, but conveniently leave out the details.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m not wild about Mr. McCain. But, I believe he is the better choice between the two offered. And Mr. Obama can keep the change.
Bob in ohio: GFY ahole
The only good republican is one with terminal cancer like McCain.
You people are so stupid you believe George Bush so I never have to pay any attention to anything you ever say again. You lied to get into government and the left is fully prepared for war to get you out of government. We young folks learned a lot in Irag and so now we can clear out a rich gated community in ten minutes (all males dead) and we are coming for you all if you try and steal this election.
No response to the fact that you are all liars. FOX News is your lying bible and together you republicans have destroyed the middle class, crippled the economy, murdered hundreds of thousands of innocent people all over the world and bankrupted the USA! My point is you do not deserve justice or fairness or level headed judgement…You all deserve death.
please, stop the violence. i can see people trying to kill each other over this. looks like we see it whenever a topic about the GOP pops up. ahahah lol
i’m not worried bc i know Obama will win this yr. i can bet my broke ass that he will. lol
Ryan: I appreciate your passion, but the death threats are not a way to back your points. If, in the course of any dialogue you believe the person is lying it helps to point out the exact lie and then provide proof which will refute the supposed lie.
Ryan- if you can’t even formulate a complete sentence, let alone spell bigotry, you probably shouldn’t expect a whole lot out of life. You certainly shouldn’t expect to be taken seriously. Thanks for commenting here and all but we can all do without the name calling and (sensored?) profanity. We are all adults and we prefer to have adult conversations. It seems your arguments against republicans have been boiled down to name calling. Which, you know, isn’t an argument at all. You should work on drawing a distinction between your emotions and your rationality. I know it can be challenging.
Irag is a lie.
Bush tax cuts help the economy is a lie.
white people are not racist is a lie.
Palin is qualified for national leadership is a lie.
Capitalism at its core is a lie. (OTHERWISE WHY BEAR STERANS, lEHMAN, AIG etc.)
That ought to get you started but if you simply look at the republican party platform you will find it is ALL LIES.
BY THE WAT, I MADE NO DEATH THREATS. WHAT I WROTE IS THAT REPUBLICANS DESERVE TO DIE. QUITE A DIFFERENT THOUGHT, BUT YOU REACTION PROVES MY POINT. YOU ARE A LIAR.
Ryan: You have completed half of the exercise. Now could you provide proof? Anyone can cast stones.
That is my point. NO, MORALLY AND ETHICALLY WE NO LONGER HAVE TO TRY TO PROVE OUR POINTS TO YOU PEOPLE. YOU HAVE SUCCESSFULLY PROVEN TO US THAT YOU ARE BACKWARD AND EVIL AND IN MASSIVE DENIAL AND NO LOGIC CAN OR WILL REACH YOU.
SO NOW WE WILL SWITCH TO YOUR TECHNIQUES. AND THE NASTIER AND MORE VIOLENT THE BETTER. YOU HAVE AWAKENED THE SLEEPING GIANT 0F TRUE AMERICAN PATRIOTISM AND WE WILL RUN YOU “REPUBLICANS” OUT OF THE COUNTRY OR INTO THE GROUND.
Ryan: The purpose of Mr. Obama’s campaign, at least initially, was to rise above the petty politics of the past. This is what I and many others were looking forward to. He was in the lead when he was doing so. Why now are all his biggest supporters stooping to the very political attacts he proclaims to stand against?
Good job, Ryan. You’ve successfully achieved the elimination of discourse. There is no need to prove points. There is no need to give a reason. There is no need to be rational.
Have you read Orwell’s 1984? You remind me of that book. Speaking of, I think it’s time for the “Two Minutes Hate.”
I AM NOT AN OBAMA SUPPORTER. HE IS JUST SLIGHTLY BETTER THAT THE CORPRATZ WE HAVE NOW. BUT HE IS A STEP AWAY FROM REPUBLICAN CORPORATE FASCISM WHICH IS YOUR DOCTRINE.
BROOKLYN D is so out of it that he does not know that america is now 1984! The USA is no longer a “free country” beacsue of the republican “Patriot Act”. Read it. No Founding Father would have signed it in ten million years.
ha ha ha – hilarious! Love your post Ryan. Check Obama on the Patriot Act.

Hey idiots. I am not Obama. i personally hate you. Not some obscure politician.
cnn: This is by far the most thorough debunking I’ve seen to date on the myriad of lies coming from Team McCain.
Obama wants to teach sex to kindergarteners? Lie.
Palin opposed the Bridge to Nowhere? Lie.
Palin hasn’t taken earmarks as Governor? Lie.
Alaska produces 20% of America’s energy? Lie.
Palin visited Iraq and Ireland? Lie.
As the campaign moves towards a focus on the economy, it’s worth keeping in mind that McCain’s lies are relevant because the demonstrate the fundamental emptiness of his REPUBLICAN campaign. He is devoid of ideas and solutions; lies are the only thing McCain has left.
Ryan: As an example, here is a link to a source. You merely cast a stone… here is a source:
ABC News’ Teddy Davis and Lindsey Ellerson Report: Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., told Planned Parenthood Tuesday that sex education for kindergarteners, as long as it is “age-appropriate,” is “the right thing to do.”
“I remember Alan Keyes . . . I remember him using this in his campaign against me,” Obama said in reference to the conservative firebrand who ran against him for the U.S. Senate in 2004. Sex education for kindergarteners had become an issue in his race against Keyes because of Obama’s work on the issue as chairman of the health committee in the Illinois state Senate.
“‘Barack Obama supports teaching sex education to kindergarteners,’” said Obama mimicking Keyes’ distinctive style of speech. “Which — I didn’t know what to tell him (laughter).”
“But it’s the right thing to do,” Obama continued, “to provide age-appropriate sex education, science-based sex education in schools.”

Secondly, I am not a Repulican. Perhaps if you read more articles on this site this would become apparent.
Of course, all that is off topic. The point of the article above was that, should Mr. Obama lose this election it will more than likely be a result of a multitude of reasons and not simply racism.
Your post about the sex education lie is just more proof that you are deceptive…perhaps even SELF- deceptive! (I never mock those who are mentally ill.) Have you considered talking to a psychologist?
Ryan: I quoted Barack Obama. If it is a lie, take it up with him.
No. You tried to use a quote to support a FALSEHOOD. The fact that you cannot tell the difference is your psychological problem.
Ryan: Please describe the falsehood. Mr. Obama said “It’s the right thing to do”. How is it then a falsehood to quote Mr. Obama?
This is great! Good to see the blog getting comments at least. Although many are polemical and filled with rhetoric. Furthermore, the ability to spell and the American educational systems ability to instruct it is questionable based on a number of the comments posted to this site.
As for the content of the blog, I think that either side can come up with great excuses as to why they didn’t win. It’s what losers do.
BaldManMoody: This is true. Both sides will come up with reasons. But I doubt there will be legions of people proclaiming America is anti-old-people simply because Mr. McCain lost. I’d imagine upon Mr. McCain’s loss, the excuse would be the environment was very favorable for a Democrat and the Democrat won. There will always be Extreme Wingers crying foul though. It just seems to me that one side has more of them crying with louder voices.
Cafferty File on CNN.com
Your point proven in absolute grandeur!
I do not support any poster to this site in any way, shape or form, but if you don’t think racism plays a major role in this run for the White House you’re either a liar of flat out ignorant.
I live in as Blue a state as there is and I have heard people say things that have dropped my jaw they were so racist.
Let’s not pretend that race isn’t a major issue in this campaign it’s beneath the dignity of thinking adults.
massasoit: Thanks for commenting. It’s good to have you back.
I don’t think racism plays a major role. I too live in an extremely blue state and it is highly pro Barack Obama. It’s the most populous state in the Country with rural and urban living and it is still a lock for Barack Obama.
If you look at the polls the states are lining up similar to what they have in past presidential elections. The swing states are still swinging. I speculate this will be very close in the end, but either way it goes it will not be a result of the masses voting a referendum on skin color. It will come down to message and likability. It always does.
The other problem I have with this accusation is it is impossible to prove. It’s a red herring. Should Mr. Obama lose it is an easy crutch to fall back on for the loser and it fits perfectly into the disgruntled mindset of the left wing of American politics. But there is no way to prove it. It will only cause more partisan division and bickering.
But I can tell from your closing sentence that you are not open minded to an opinion otherwise. It would be nice if you could offer more logical evidence other than brushing off the entire idea and referencing a few unidentified bigots. This line of reasoning could easily be applied to the people who will not vote for Mr. McCain simply because he is old. Would it then be prudent to dismiss any conversation of the matter by turning up the nose and saying: Let’s not pretend that age isn’t a major issue in this campaign it’s beneath the dignity of thinking adults?
I would also like to add that any idea of racism entering into this election as the deciding factor assumes that no matter how well Mr. Obama does in current polling, nationally and state by state, he is presumed dead in the water with no chance of revival.
To assume that racism is the major issue is also to assume two things, the nearly 18 million people who voted for Mr. Obama over Mrs. Clinton had a greater propensity towards sexism than racism, and also that the message of liberal idealogy has no far reaching support which could over come personal bias or bigotry.
Additionally it is to assume that the current American culture has no desire to actually catch up to the civil rights movement of half a century ago. And in this narrow view point, it would be in the best interest of the few true believers to nominate a man who they truly believe will have no chance at winning due to his skin color for the soul purpose of pointing to the character flaws of their fellow citizens.
To assume racism is the major issue in this campaign despite the primary victory, the deflation of a ‘Palin Bounce’ (i.e. White Privilage Bounce), and the overall popular support of the candidate is to assume the worst of the nation and to expect the worst of the nation.
In short, it is a defeatist mentality. And I would hope that defeatist mentalities would be beneath the dignity of thinking adults. Defeatism certainly wasn’t the spirit of the fight for American Independance.

LordWakefield: Funny you should ask. I saw that and I am working on a new post about it. When I’m finished I’ll post it as a new blog.
The research has been fun and I’ve even learned a few things about my local town here. It’s been pretty cool learning about all this. Give me a day or so and I’ll have something up we can talk about.
Alright, I’m out for the evening. It’s been a pleasure LW…
I look forward to your response/blog. The pleasure is all mine.
LordWakefield: My response has been posted here.
LordWakefield: If you do ever want to come back to the site, here is a link to a NYTimes article written by a thinking adult. It refutes the assumption of racism playing a major role.
